Late 18th Century High-Gustavian Commode with Intarsia by Gustaf Foltjern

A distinguished high-Gustavian commode, crafted in Stockholm by Gustaf Foltjern (master 1771-1804). The top features an original slab of Kolsmo marble, while the body is veneered in various woods on a frame of pine and alder. The front is adorned with exquisite intarsia work, including a fruit basket design, and the inlay is meticulously engraved with wax. The upper drawer features illusory inlaid cannelures. The body is straight with angled corners, beautifully decorated with fleurons, while the sides are embellished with laurel festoons and knob hardware. The brass hardware is burnished gilded. The commode's lambrequin has minor veneer damage.
