19th Century Peter Strengberg Mantel Clock
19th Century Peter Strengberg Mantel Clock
A high-quality Swedish burnished gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock with a movement by Peter Strengberg (watchmaker in Stockholm and Mariefred from 1802-1831). The design is based on a drawing by Matelot, with the clock's theme inspired by maritime imagery—featuring a sailor holding an anchor and paddle. The base's frieze depicts putti working in a factory or mine. The feet are shaped like barrel hoops. A similar case, but with a different maker, is found at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The key for the movement is missing.
